La Mome…

Published by Lothar Evers under Lyrics & Songs

For the english readers:

I watched the french Film “La Mome” recently.
Marion Cotillard stars as Edith Piaf.
Piaf belonged to my fathers heroines.
My grandmere (his mother) was born in Alsace Lorain. She and her two sibblings during world war two where citizens of three different nations (German, French and Luxemburg).
Grandmere and her three children lived up to this semi french origin and cultivated it verbally and a la cuisine.
I liked the idea of being half french.
Like my father I proudly wore my barret basque.
I do not know exactly how old I was, maybe six or eight when I heard my father sing “Je ne regrette rien” in our living room.
Not so common, I guess, for a respectable German husband in the sixties.
The first video here shows Edith Piaf performing.
The second is an interview conducted by Georg Stefan Troller one of the best documentarists in German with Piaf and her husband Theo Sarapo.

From this broken Hill…

Published by Lothar Evers under Lyrics & Songs

Since many years “If it be your will…” by Leonard Cohen is among my favorite songs. There is a time to speek out loud, a time to keep your mouth shut and:
these ugly times of transition in between.

Auf Deutsch:
Seit vielen Jahre zählt “If it be your will…” von Leonard Cohen zu meinen Lieblingsliedern . Alles hat seine Zeit:

der Aufschrei, das Schweigen. Am schwierigsten jedoch:
die hässlichen Übergänge dazwischen

Enough preliminaries, without further a do here you can listen to the song:
.
and read Cohens lyrics:

If it be your will
That I speak no more
And my voice be still
As it was before
I will speak no more
I shall abide until
I am spoken for
If it be your will

If it be your will
That a voice be true
From this broken hill
I will sing to you
From this broken hill
All your praises they shall ring
If it be your will
To let me sing
From this broken hill
All your praises they shall ring
If it be your will
To let me sing

If it be your will
If there is a choice Continue Reading »
